EARNING MILES:
Miles are earned toward Award Travel and non-air redemptions and differ from Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) earned toward Medallion status:
For Delta-marketed (flight numbers that include the “DL” airline code) or Delta-ticketed (featuring a ticket number beginning with “006”) flights, SkyMiles members will earn miles based on ticket price, at the rate of 5 miles per U.S. Dollar (USD) spent. Ticket price eligible for mileage accrual includes base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, but excludes government-imposed taxes and fees. Members with earned Medallion status will earn an additional Medallion mileage bonus per USD spent based on their status at the time of travel. Silver Medallion members will earn 2 additional miles per USD (for a total of 7 miles per USD). Gold Medallion members will earn 3 additional miles per USD (for a total of 8 miles per USD). Platinum Medallion members will earn 4 additional miles per USD (for a total of 9 miles per USD). Diamond Medallion members will earn 6 additional miles per USD (for a total of 11 miles per USD). Members who receive complimentary Medallion status are not eligible to receive the Medallion mileage bonus for the complimentary Medallion year (excludes members who receive complimentary annual Medallion status through the Million Miler™ program or Choice Benefits gifted Medallion status) unless the member earns Medallion status through the required MQMs or MQSs and MQDs, in which case the mileage bonus for the earned tier is applied. For example, if a member is awarded complimentary Gold Medallion status, then earns Silver Medallion status by earning the required MQMs or MQSs and MQDs, the Silver Medallion mileage bonus will be applied.
Miles earned per segment will be calculated based on a prorated amount of the total ticket price eligible for mileage accrual and will not be subject to minimum mileage accrual. Each passenger will earn a maximum of 75,000 miles per reservation, inclusive of any Medallion mileage bonuses or class-of-service bonuses. Promotional mileage bonuses will not count toward the 75,000 maximum mileage accrual per person per reservation unless otherwise stated in the promotion’s terms and conditions.
For flights marketed or ticketed by Delta and purchased in a currency other than USD, the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges will be converted to USD based on the IATA 5-day currency exchange rate at the time of ticketing. Then the appropriate mileage accrual rate per USD will be applied and miles credited to the member’s SkyMiles account once travel is complete. Additional base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges collected as a result of ticket reissue will be converted to USD, and the appropriate mileage accrual rate applied, based on the IATA 5-day currency exchange rate at the time of reissue.
Flights marketed and ticketed by Delta’s partner airlines will earn miles based on a percentage of distance flown as determined by the fare class paid as published at delta.com/partnerairlines at the time of travel.
For itineraries ticketed by Delta’s partner airlines that contain both partner-marketed segments and Delta-marketed segments, the partner-marketed segments will earn miles based on a percentage of the distance flown as determined by the fare class paid as published at delta.com/partnerairlines at the time of travel, and the Delta-marketed segments will earn miles based on the total base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges prorated as a percentage of total distance flown.
Certain tickets, including but not limited to bulk, consolidator, cruise, vacation packages (including Delta Vacations® packages), inclusive tour and other tickets where the fare is not disclosed, will earn miles based on a percentage of distance flown as determined by the fare class paid as published at delta.com/exceptionfares at the time of travel. If an exception fare (as described in the preceding sentence) is eligible for a Medallion mileage bonus, Silver Medallion members will earn a 40% bonus on miles awarded or distance flown (whichever is less), Gold Medallion members will earn a 60% bonus, Platinum Medallion members will earn an 80% bonus and Diamond Medallion members will earn a 120% bonus.
For purposes of mileage credit, “distance flown” means the calculated distance between origin and destination, as determined by Delta in its sole discretion, regardless of the actual distance traveled on any individual flight.
Award, Miles + Cash, free, barter, pass travel and certain other tickets are not eligible for mileage accrual. Tickets purchased through Pay with Miles will earn miles for the portion of the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges remaining that is paid in currency after miles are applied to the ticket total.
All other ancillary purchases or fees do not count toward earning miles, including but not limited to checked baggage fees, Priority Boarding, Delta Sky Club memberships, Wi-Fi passes, in-flight food and beverage purchases, in-flight entertainment, unaccompanied minor fees, pet travel fees, Mileage Booster™ or mileage purchases, ticket change fees, Direct Ticketing Charges (DTC), same-day confirmed or standby fees, Administrative Service Charges (ASC), External Reissue Charges (ERC).

Calculations are based on a round-trip flight and are accurate for non-stop flights only. Mileage estimates for city area codes, such as “NYC” or “CHI”, are approximate and will vary from actual mileage earned for specific airports in that city area. Mileage Comparison Calculator results may be provided for markets that are not served by Delta. The number of miles shown in the Mileage Comparison Calculator does not include additional miles a Card Member may earn on the Delta SkyMiles Credit Card.
Miles on Delta Purchases with U.S. Delta SkyMiles Credit Cards from American Express:
This offer applies to qualifying Delta, Delta Connection® carrier and Delta Shuttle® flights taken with the purchase of a fare that is eligible for SkyMiles mileage credit. The total ticket price, including base fare, carrier-imposed surcharges and government-imposed taxes and fees is eligible to earn double miles. Offer applies to any Delta-branded purchase where Delta is the merchant of record via delta.com or in flight such as upgrades, miles, seat selection, Delta Sky Club membership or passes, pre-purchased meals, food, beverages and in-flight entertainment. Offer applies to Delta Vacations packages but not other all-inclusive packages. Delta SkyMiles Options Credit Card Members may earn a maximum of one additional mile per dollar spent on Delta purchases with the Card. Offer is subject to change without notice.
